CANADA STRENGHTENS BORDERS THROUGH BIOMETRICS
Stamford, Connecticut (USA). L-1 Identity Solutions received an order from the Canadian Government amounting to 2,8 million dollars for identity document scanners. Scanners are equipped with Smartchips/RFID technologies provided by Viisage Technology, a branch office of L-1. Scanners will be used in all Canadian international airports and in frontier sites in order to read quickly the documents of travellers in transit containing information supported by this technology. This measure is part of the Canadian Government’s renewal plan of policies for border controls. Those 415 scanners about to be delivered along with other 400 already installed make of Canada one of the leading countries in the world as to the implementation of this kind of control technology. Viisage already collaborated with the Governments of Canada, Brazil and Australia. Scanners are based on the iA-tenthicate reading platform, which combines hardware and software to check documents through a RFID scanner, an image and data analysis system. As regards personnel, its use is extremely easy: they only have to insert the document in the device provided and the identification process is carried out in a few seconds.
