SMART CARDS BETTER THAN BIOMETRICS
San Jose, California (USA). According to a recent survey carried out by the American Equs Group, in the near future smart cards could register higher sales increase in comparison with biometric products. Since smart cards offer an immediate contactless verification, the so called “perceived security” is equivalent to the one perceived with the most sophisticated biometric systems. What is more, they are much less invasive for privacy and thus much more welcomed by most of the public. The Equs survey addressed managers of the IT sector and concerned company investments in the security field for the year 2007. Smart cards have been identified as much more user friendly. 66% people stated not to have biometric plans for the near future, whereas 51% declared not to use smart card technology. 15% people have already implemented security measures with smart cards, whilst only 8% already uses biometric security solutions. Among the solutions - installed or planned - fingerprints are the users’ favourite anyway.
